November 7 Update from Pastor John

I saw a moving music video today that reminded me of why we do what we do at Mission Joplin. I think it will touch your heart too. You can check it out below.

We are open tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and need canned meat, furniture, socks, underwear, and canned fruit. We were able to rearrange our “store without a cash register” to make room for some furniture. Bring it on! Help the people in our hometown!

November 4 Update from Pastor John

We had another monumental loss at Forest Park this week. Twenty-six-year-old Preston Smith, husband of Dara Smith, son of Bruce and Mary Beth Smith was killed in an automobile accident. I have the service tomorrow at 2 p.m. at our church. Dara’s parents lost their home in the May 22 tornado and have been living in an RV. It’s a heartbreaking time for many of us. BUT, just as God has been faithful to help us during our recovery from the tornado, God will help us in this grief as well. We are open at Mission Joplin tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Misty says we are short on canned meat, canned soup, socks, underwear, and coats. In addition,…

November 2 Update from Pastor John

One of our volunteers remembers helping a woman at Mission Joplin about two weeks after the tornado: “She told me that her mother had died two years ago and that she still had her mother’s hospital bed in the bedroom next to hers. She said she just couldn’t part with it for some reason. During the tornado, the roof was blown off her house and she felt herself being sucked up into the tornado. She was praying and asking God to protect her. At that moment the wall between her bedroom where she had taken refuge and the bedroom with the hospital bed was blown away and the mattress off the hospital bed landed on her and pushed her back…

October 31 Update from Pastor John

Wonderful news! Forest Park closed today on the former Barton Hardware store in Carthage (FYI, no tornado relief funds are used for projects like this).  Included in the building is a 17,000 sq. ft. warehouse that will hold supplies for Mission Joplin! We are so excited for how this warehouse space will help us to better serve our community. We are open tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come and serve as a personal shopper or bring over some of the supplies we need: bleach, dish soap, cleaning supplies, canned meat, portable heaters, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, maternity clothes, microwaves, and conditioner.  God keeps sending us what we need to help others. Thanks for all your help!
